Nestled in the heart of the Alpilles mountains, the Carrières de Lumières in Les Baux de Provence once again transported visitors into a magical artistic world. A spellbinding show highlights the masterpieces of three iconic painters: Jérôme Bosch, Pieter Brueghel the Elder and Giuseppe Arcimboldo. Through this immersive artistic experience, spectators have the chance to discover the distinctive characteristics of each of these masters of painting.
Jerome Bosch, the visionary painter of the 15th century, is renowned for his mysterious, allegorical works. His paintings are brimming with fantastic creatures, hybrid animals and dreamlike landscapes. The Carrières de Lumières show precisely recreates the haunting, nightmarish atmosphere that pervades his most famous works, such as “The Garden of Delights” and “The Temptation of Saint Anthony”. The audience is immersed in Bosch’s mystical world, where every detail bears witness to his boundless imagination.
Pieter Brueghel the Elder is a master of 16th-century Flemish painting, famous for his scenes of daily life. His realism and ability to capture the diversity of the society of his time are highlighted. We lose ourselves in his picturesque landscapes, fairs and bustling markets. The show literally transports us to the heart of the golden age of Flemish painting, where each Brueghel painting tells a story of popular life.
Giuseppe Arcimboldo, the Italian Renaissance artist, is famous for his portraits composed of unexpected elements, such as fruit, vegetables and animals. His unique style is a fusion of ingenuity and humor. The public is invited to explore the many facets of Arcimboldo’s art, where nature meets humanity in a most creative way.
