Van Gogh at the Baux de Provence quarries.
Starry night, pure Van Gogh .
Les Carrières de Lumières, located in Les Baux-de-Provence, has established itself as a must-see venue for art lovers the world over. Each year, they are transformed to host a new immersive exhibition offering visitors a unique artistic experience. One of the most memorable exhibitions of recent years was that devoted to Vincent van Gogh, the post-impressionist master.
Van Gogh’s work comes to life before our eyes, each brushstroke and swirl of color projected with impressive clarity. What’s immediately striking is the transparency of the projections. Every brushstroke and every stroke of paint is revealed in all its splendor. The colors are so intense that the paintings appear to be freshly painted. The transparency of the projections is a tribute to the work of Van Gogh, who was himself fascinated by light and color.
But what makes this exhibition an unforgettable experience goes beyond projection technology. Music plays an essential role in the total immersion into Van Gogh’s world. The music seems to merge with the projected colors and shapes, creating an enchanting symbiosis between sound and visual art, creating a deep connection with Van Gogh’s works. The music literally transports us inside the canvases. We feel as if we’re walking through fields of wheat, contemplating the starry night or feeling the warmth of the sun in the sunflowers. Each painting becomes a complete sensory experience.
The Van Gogh show is much more than a simple presentation of works of art. It’s a celebration of the life and art of one of the most influential painters of all time. It’s an experience that touches the heart and soul, reminding us all that art has the power to transport us to another magical, timeless world.
